About Cashier's Office


The hours for the Cashier’s Office are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Functions of the Cashier's Office

  • Incoming Cash and Check Deposits

    Deposits of checks and cash from sponsored research, departments, labs, and centers, as well as student organizations are handled by the Cashiers Office. These deposits may be dropped off at building NE49-3077, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Petty Cash Envelopes

    Petty cash envelopes may be brought to the Cashier's Office for replenishment. The Cashier's Office is located in building NE49-3077, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

    • Petty Cash Slips

      Petty cash slips up to $50, will be handled at the Cashier’s Office until an alternative method is developed. Proper identification is required to redeem petty cash slips from the Cashier’s Office. Petty cash slips over $50 need to be submitted to Accounts Payable on a request for payment form for reimbursement.

    • Human Subject Vouchers

      Human subject vouchers will be handled at the Cashier’s Office until an alternative method is developed. Proper identification is needed to redeem the human subject voucher.

  • Merchant Services

    All inquiries and activity associated with set ups should be sent to chargemit-startup@mit.edu. Ongoing technical and business questions should be directed to chargemit-help@mit.edu.

  • MIT Hobby Shop

    You may now make membership fees and other Hobby Shop payments at the Hobby Shop. See Hobby Shop.

Services Discontinued by the Cashier’s Office

  • Cashing Checks

    The Cashier’s Office will not cash personal checks, MIT reimbursement checks, MIT travel advance checks or MIT Credit Union checks.

  • Selling Traveler’s Checks

    Traveler’s checks may be purchased at the Bank of America branch in the Student Center (W20). The MIT Credit Union also offers Traveler's checks.

  • Distributing MIT Payroll Checks

    Payroll checks may be picked up in the Payroll Office in Building NE49-3131.

  • Distributing MIT Travel Advance Checks

    You may pick up travel advance checks at Building NE49 4th floor reception desk or request that it be mailed to the department or traveler. If mailed, please allow sufficient time to receive the Travel Advance check before the trip is taken.

Functions Transferred Out of Cashier’s Office

  • MBTA Passes

    MBTA passes are sold at the Parking & Transportation Office, E32-105, on the last three business days of the month, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Regular operating hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • M2 Shuttle Tickets

    M2 Shuttle Tickets are sold at the Parking & Transportation Office, building E32-105, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Master and Ph.d Thesis

    The cost of master thesis and Ph.d thesis will appear on a student's bill from Student Services.

  • Course Notes

    Course packs are available at the Copy Tech Center, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Physics Tool Kit

    Physics Tool Kits may be purchased from the Physics Department.

  • Transcripts

    The Registrar’s Office sells transcripts and accepts only credit cards or checks.
