Our primary mission is to ensure the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the financial information recorded in the books and records of the Institute. We focus on the systems and processes that result in general ledger postings, balances and the resulting consolidated financial information to ensure its completeness, accuracy and timeliness in compliance with GAAP, MIT accounting standards and policies, and sponsor and donor requirements. We work closely with the tax group to support its efforts to ensure that the Institute is in compliance with federal, state, local and international tax law and regulations.
With our financial information and internal control expertise, we strive to be the preferred source of financial information and services to our many customers both within and outside the MIT community. An added focus area is the continuous improvement of financial business processes and reporting through simplification, increased automation and optimizing the use of tools and software.
We will work in partnership with our colleagues and clients, (the departments, labs and centers of the Institute) to accomplish this mission through: regular, frequent communication; early involvement in the planning stages of business initiatives; the design and delivery of financial and internal control focused training, and through other community outreach initiatives.
